EXCALIBUR RENAISSANCE FESTIVAL 2003
        "BOWLING FOR GOBLINS"

Like the Pickle Joust, "Bowling For Goblins" was another fun improv bit, this time played out between Mordred (as played by David Baxter, shown rolling the ball in the photo, above) and the sorceress, Lady Annowre (as played by Tara Koonce; photo, below). They were ably assisted by the Dark Faerie, Malice (at right in photo, above, shown holding one end of the "strike line") and one of the Dark Elves, Sir-Nameless-At-This-Time (at left, holding down the other end of the line). The rules of the game were the same as bowling: try to knock down as many pins as possible with a single throw of the ball. The big difference here was that the "pins" were mostly goblins, with the addition of a few human Rogues for color! As might be expected in any competition with Mordred, there was cheating aplenty so that he could easily win!!!

Showing the strain, Lady Annowre steps up to the line as she prepares to bowl. Shifting the strike line was just one of the painfully OBVIOUS cheats that Malice and the Drow pulled on Lady Annowre! For Mordred, they moved the strike line at least three feet CLOSER to the "pins" (goblins), but for Lady Annowre's turn, they moved it at least five feet FARTHER AWAY!!! When Lady Annowre finally shouted in frustration: "That's cheating!", Mordred merely looked at her and basically replied: "And your point is...?"

Still game, Lady Annowre tries to will a strike with body English as she casts the ball at the goblins. That, unnaturally enough, was the cue for the goblins to cheat. As the ball approached, they all crabwalked aside -- letting the ball pass between them, harmlessly -- and then shifted back into formation. Lady Annowre's score: SCRATCH!!! For Mordred's turn, on the other hand, they ALL fell down, even if the ball rolled past them three feet away: ANOTHER strike for Mordred -- HUZZAH!!! Final score: Mordred -- six strikes; Lady Annowre -- nothing!

After the game, Mordred and Lady Annowre stepped back to let the patron children take a turn at bowling. Oddly enough, all the kids bowled perfect scores, too -- JUST LIKE MORDRED!!!
