Another fun event at ERF2003 was the Pickle Joust. This was definitely an improv gig, hosted by the "Pickle Guy" there! Just like the nearby tourament, there were two "knights champion" with two lovely patron ladies attaching their favors to each knights' pickle-tipped lance (Photos, left and below).

Likewise, each knight was accompanied by a "second" -- or Squire -- chosen randomly from the patron spectators present (Photo, right). The rules of pickle jousting were also the same: three passes with the lance, trying to unseat their opponent (i.e., knock them to the ground!) and/or break their lance, er...pickle!...on their foeman's shield! As can be rightly imagined, those pickles took considerable abuse that day!!!
Pickle jousting requires a lot more skill than it appears, here (Photo, left). Trying to score on those tiny shields was no mean feat!!!
