FAERIES DANCING AT THE DES MOINES RENAISSANCE FESTIVAL 2011 -- 01:13
Queen Titania leads visiting children and the lovely faeries of Her Court in a circle dance during the Opening Weekend of the Des Moines Renaissance Festival 2011. The Faerie Court is very active at Des Moines: not only do they have their own area -- Oberon's Tree House -- but they greet and play with patron children at every opportunity!

NIFTY MUSCLE-POWERED RIDE AT DES MOINES RENFAIRE 2011 -- 01:49
<--- Like most rides at many renaissance festivals, this sky-chair ride was powered solely by the strength of the young man running it. It seems to be using a (hidden) series of cogwheels to amplify the young fellows strength as he turned the crank, thereby turning the upright shaft -- and making the sky-chairs go round and round: what ingenuity!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY AT THE DES MOINES RENAISSANCE FESTIVAL 2011 -- 01:11
Spontaneous improv is the joy of renaissance festivals everywhere. Here, the Pirate Captain organized a flash mob of players, entertainers and patrons to sing "Happy Birthday!" to one of the food vendors at the Des Moines Renaissance Festival 2011. What the good captain DIDN'T know was that a wandering troubadour had brought out a medieval shawm -- and proceeded to play both an opening and closing fanfare with it at the celebration. Listen for the captain as he asks, incredulously: "What IS that thing???!?"
