        H.P. LOVECRAFT
        An essay on the Master by Daniel Harms, which appeared in the June, 2004 issue of the "Fortean Times," now available online. This articles considers the various themes and primal sources which influenced Lovecraft in his writings, his relationship with religion and the occult and the ultimate legacy of his greatest creation, the Cthulhu Mythos.


        THE ELDRITCH DARK: THE SANCTUM OF CLARK ASHTON SMITH
        "perhaps best known today for his association with H.P Lovecraft and the Cthulhu Mythos, Clark Ashton Smith (1893-1961) is in his own right a unique master of fantasy, horror and science-fiction. While he considered himself primarily a poet, and wrote over 700 poems and prose poems, it is for his short stories that he is best known today."         THE COSMIC HORROR OF ROBERT E. HOWARD
        "Robert E. Howard wrote gripping horror stories, giving a unique twist to the traditional monsters of gothic fiction – vampires, werewolves, and ghosts. But he was also a pioneer of cosmic horror, joining his friend H. P. Lovecraft in imagining that humankind was preceded on the earth by powerful, grotesque entities whose ancient age of dominion is memorialized today by strange cults."


        MANLY WADE WELLMAN
        Nineteen short stories of "John the Balladeer," AKA "Silver John," are collected online at this site, including "The Desrick on Yandro," "Old Devlins Was A-Waiting" and "Can These Bones Live?" Drawing on his knowledge both of native folklore and dialect, Wellman is best known for his fantasy and horror stories -- many featuring the same eerie atmosphere as H.P. Lovecraft -- but set in the Appalachian Mountains of the early Twentieth Century.
